Items 1 - 20 of 26

The Front Runner Slimline 3 is the new generation of Front Runner's modular roof rack system and the successor to the established Slimline II. As part of the new Dometic Front Runner Series, it has been developed for overlanding, off-road travel, camping, expeditions and demanding vehicle builds.

Compared with the Slimline II, Dometic states that the Slimline 3 has a 20% lower profile, uses 40% stronger material and provides 70% greater structural stability. Adjustable slats, dual T-slot channels, concealed cable management and integrated tie-down points make the new platform considerably more adaptable.

New for 2026: selected Front Runner Slimline 3 roof rack kits are already available for pre-order. According to current manufacturer information, first deliveries are planned from October 2026. Initial quantities are limited.

What is the Front Runner Slimline 3?

The Front Runner Slimline 3 Roof Rack is a low-profile modular roof rack platform for 4x4s, SUVs and pickup trucks. It has been developed as the next generation of the established Front Runner Slimline II and forms part of the new Dometic Front Runner Series.

Its main advantage is the combination of strength and adaptability. The roof rack can be configured for storage boxes, recovery gear, LED lighting, solar equipment, camping gear, sports equipment and a wide range of Front Runner accessories.

This makes Slimline 3 suitable for permanently equipped overland vehicles as well as vehicles whose roof rack configuration changes depending on the journey, cargo or application.

Front Runner Slimline 3 vs Slimline II

Slimline 3 is more than a styling update. Dometic has redesigned important structural and functional elements of the established Front Runner roof rack platform.

20% Lower Profile

One of the most noticeable improvements of the Front Runner Slimline 3 is its lower overall design. Dometic states that the platform has a 20% lower profile than Slimline II.

Positioning the platform closer to the vehicle roof creates a cleaner and more integrated appearance while also helping to reduce aerodynamic drag and wind noise.

Concealed external fasteners and a flat upper surface without a raised perimeter edge further improve both appearance and usability, particularly when loading larger items from the side.

40% Stronger and 70% More Structurally Stable

Dometic has significantly revised the structure of the new Slimline 3 platform. According to the manufacturer, the new generation uses 40% stronger material and provides 70% greater structural stability.

Increased rigidity creates a stable platform for cargo and accessories and is particularly relevant for demanding overland and off-road applications where the rack is exposed to vibration, movement and constantly changing dynamic loads.

Adjustable Slats for Maximum Modularity

One of the defining features of the Front Runner Slimline 3 roof rack is its redesigned modular slat system. Individual slats can be added, removed or repositioned without dismantling the entire rack platform.

Slat spacing can also be adapted to suit different equipment and mounting requirements.

  • Storage and cargo boxes
  • Recovery boards and recovery equipment
  • LED and work lighting
  • Solar panels
  • Camping and expedition equipment
  • Bike, ski and sports carriers
  • Water and cargo solutions
  • Tools and professional equipment

Slimline 3 can therefore be configured as anything from a simple cargo platform to a comprehensive overland roof rack system.

Dual T-Slots for Front Runner Accessories

Slimline 3 slats feature dual upper T-slot channels and multiple insertion points. Accessories and brackets can be positioned flexibly and repositioned later when the vehicle setup changes.

This is particularly relevant for existing Front Runner customers. According to Dometic, Front Runner accessories that mount on top of the rack platform remain compatible with Slimline 3. A new range of accessories specifically designed for Slimline 3 is also available.

Integrated Cable Management for LED Lighting and Solar

Modern overland and off-road vehicles frequently use auxiliary lighting, work lights, solar panels and other electrical equipment.

Slimline 3 therefore incorporates concealed cable channels within the rack profiles. Wiring for lighting, solar and other electrical accessories can be routed more discreetly and securely through the rack structure.

This provides a significantly cleaner installation, particularly on professionally equipped expedition and touring vehicles.

Integrated Tie-Down Points

Slimline 3 provides integrated tie-down options for securing storage boxes, bags and other cargo. Equipment can therefore be secured quickly using suitable straps.

The system can be combined with Front Runner Stratchits and other appropriate cargo securing solutions.

Easy-Release Mounting System

Another Slimline 3 feature is the Easy-Release mounting system. On compatible vehicle-specific mounting systems, the rack platform can be removed more easily and subsequently reinstalled.

This can be particularly useful for owners who do not require the roof rack permanently or use different vehicle setups depending on the season or type of journey.

Built for Off-Road and Overland Use

Dometic Front Runner uses durable and corrosion-resistant materials for the Slimline 3 system. Relevant components include heat-treated aluminium and high-strength stainless-steel parts. A durable black finish provides additional weather protection and retains the characteristic Front Runner appearance.

The system has been designed for long-term use in demanding touring, outdoor and off-road environments.

Who is the Front Runner Slimline 3 for?

Slimline 3 is particularly attractive to drivers who need more than conventional roof bars and want a modular roof rack platform that can be expanded and reconfigured over time.

  • Overlanding and long-distance touring
  • Off-road and 4x4 vehicles
  • Camping and vehicle conversions
  • SUVs and pickup trucks
  • Expedition vehicles
  • Outdoor and professional applications
